Known for his reggaetón and trap music, Bentio Antonio Martínez Ocasio, or otherwise known as Bad Bunny, has made quite the name for himself. The Puerto Rican has grown a tremendous following and support across many communities. He has always been known as Bad Bunny. But do you know the truth to the name “Bad Bunny”?
Growing up, Bentio had a love for animals. He was often known for his love for animals and helping with animal shelters. He wanted to help all the animals that he could. He grew up with a deep appreciation for our furry friends. He even had some pets of his own. There were dogs, cats, but then there was a bunny who he named Baddie.
Baddie was a rescue. She had come in one day to a shelter Bentio was volunteering at, and that was the start of their pet-owner relationship. Baddie was and will always be Benito’s best friend. She had listened through endless sessions of Bentio singing. Always in the crowd of those solo concerts he had to prepare himself for the future where he would be an artist. Baddie was with him during the nights he stayed awake pushing towards his goals of putting out music.
Baddie had meant everything to Bentio. More than what words can express. She had helped him get through so much before his career took off.
When his music career finally took off and recognition came flowing in, everything was fulfilling Bentio’s dream. He had finally made it. Everything was happening quickly, more than what Bentio had anticipated. If he wanted to ensure his place in history, he would have to leave Puerto Rico and head to the United States. It was to get into the recording studio and get on the track that he had always dreamed of. The dream that he performed for Baddie on too many occasions.
When he left, he couldn’t take Baddie with him. He deemed it unfair to drag her to the states and not be there like he should for her. Take care of her in the way that she needed. He knew being an artist would come with sacrifices and leaving her behind was one of them. She had stayed with his parents, to ease his nerves that she would be taken care of, truly taken care of. He knew it was for the best, but the heartbreak was still there.
So, he honored her. Baddie influenced his stage name. The name that everyone knows, and some come to love dearly. Bentio, Bad Bunny, wanted to be sure that no matter where he was in the world and how far he was from Baddie, she was always there with him. Bad Bunny ensured that he never forgot the pet that changed his life. From there on out, he has been known across the globe as Bad Bunny, the king of reggaetón and Latin trap.
